Making Art and Teaching Students: A Master Silversmith Speaks
presented by: Robert Ebendorf, Silversmith & Professor - School of Art, East Carolina University

Unlike past silver conferences which focused on pre-twentieth century silver, the study of twentieth century silver affords us the exciting opportunity to actually hear from some of the artists themselves. In fact there were a number of active smiths speaking as well as attending the conference and associated activities. This was a great treat for such a group of silver enthusiasts.

Mr. Ebendorf is a founding member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG). His presentation focused on the historical forces that drove the formation of SNAG in 1969 and the evolution of the organization. He provided thoughtful insights into the other founding members which included Ronald Pearson, Stanley Lechtzin and Kurt Matzdorf. Mr. Matzdorf honored us with a presentation of his work later in the conference. Mr. Ebendorf also presented examples of pieces produced by the student progeny of SNAG members.
