Did Georg Jensen use GI as a hallmark on some of his pieces? Can anyone suggest a book that has good information on the various hallmarks used by Georg Jensen? IP: Logged |

The following are some of the Georg Jensen marks that have a GJ. Sometimes the GJ is so poorly struck that it looks like a GI. As it regards a good book with a lot more information about Georg Jensen I would refer you to the moderator's page which mentions Janet Drucker's Book. IP: Logged |

Here is some general information Jensen hallmarks--I would suggest getting Janet Drucker's book as well. 1. (The first mark Scott pictures): 1904-1908 3. (Scott's 3rd mark) I think it was used from about 1915 up to the early 30s. 4. (Scott's 4th mark) Used in the 1920s & 1930s (Jensen started using exclusively sterling in the 30s). 5. A J enclosing a G inside of a rectangle: 1933-44 6. "Georg Jensen" in a dotted oval: post 1945. These are just 6 basic marks--there are other ones as well, along with artist marks, etc. And pieces marked "Georg Jensen USA" were not really made by Jensen; though they have similar design concepts, the qualities of design and craftsmanship are lower. They are less sought-after. IP: Logged |

GI was used by Georg Jensen in the early years of his atelier - 1904-1915. The marks are identified in Georg Jensen A Tradition of Splendid Silver by Janet Drucker. IP: Logged |
