I am having a time of trying to identify what I think is a roll top butter dish. The piece is about 8 1/2" long 6 inches wide and 5" tall. The body is oblong with a top that rotates into the bottom once a small pin key is removed. The top is adorned with ferns, clover? and 2 bows. The stand (attached) and bottom of the butter bowl looks like twigs or small branched that cross to form the legs and handles. On the foot of one leg is the letter "F", on the diagnal foot is either an "8" of a "S". There are 2 "8"s at the rotation point of the top finally (I almost missed this) on the 2 other legs about halfway up is what appears to be another stamp that I thought was a knot, instead there is a "R" in the center. on the left and right are cresents pointing out with a mark on each side, below is an acorn shape with another mark (too small to read) above the "R" is a bell shape with a round top. there is a number in the round and a letter in the bell. This stamp is 3/8"x3/16" This appears to be solid silver. IP: Logged |
