"Modernism in American Silver" is a new reference published by Yale to accompany an exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art. Jewel Stern is the author and Kevin Tucker and Charles Venable are the editors. It is a beautifully illustrated and scholarly text. Well worth the $75 price (especially if, like Venable's "Silver in America," the price doubles when it goes o.o.p.). IP: Logged |

Paul, Thanks for the info. Have you seen a copy of it? I will save my pennies and get a copy. Do you have an address or phone# to purchase it? Fred IP: Logged |

Fred, You can order the book at a greatly discounted price (about $48) through amazon.com. However, any local book retailer can also get it for you since it is currently in print. ISBN is 030010927X. IP: Logged |

Thanks Paul, Seems I have just won a bid on another book and will remain poor for a while longer. I have often said that I have more invested in books than in the items I collect. Fred IP: Logged |

The book is fascinating, in my opinion. I was fortunate enough to hear Ms. Stern speak at the NYU silver conference a little over 6 years ago, and she included a number of pictures and facts in that speech which can be found in the book. It is a story that has never been told before, and it adds another level to my appreciation of Modern silver. Actually, if you go through the book, then go through the old threads in this Forum, you will find a number of similar objects, as I personally have examples of a number of items in Ms. Stern's collection. Most of them have been thread starters for me as well! Anyway, by all means get the book and read it. It is entertaining, and the objects are wonderful. Brent IP: Logged |
