A facsimile of Elizabeth Copeland's mark (plain EC) is included in the makers mark section of "Art Noveau and Art Deco Silver", by Annelies Krekel-Aalberse, on page 265. The same book has a picture of one of her boxes (beautiful! - page 105, currently in the Art Institute of Chicago), and a brief biography (page 98) indicating she learned enamelling in England under Alexander Fisher, before returning to the United States to work for the Handicraft Shop. She worked until 1937, specialising in silver coffers with naturalistic motifs in cloisonne enamel, deliberately made to look primitive, to emphasize they were hand crafted. IP: Logged |
