This olive server has had me baffled for some time:
It's almost Bauhaus in style, and nicely handmade from four pieces: the bowl and two side ribs are separately made and soldered to the handle. Overall length is 8 inches. It's marked at the fork end sterling, with a pretty generic commercial punch, and at the other end WESP, apparently from a single punch. The ribs are asymmetrically mounted, and along with the front of the handle notched to create a kind of machine-age architectural form. The bowl is a simple domed disc; the fork was split and forged from the handle. Does anyone recognize this? IP: Logged |

It may be the mark of a descendent of arts & crafts silversmith Franklin Porter of Danvers, MA. According to Rainwater, his daughther marked silver HLP, and his adopted son used a mark of ESDP. WESP may be another relative; it would fit the pattern if nothing else. Does anyone know more about Franklin Porter and his family? Brent IP: Logged |
