Here is another mystery piece. It is a simple flat bottom hammered bowl of heavy gauge, but with an unusual etched sheep/horse design in the middle. If the design were less "Art"-y, I'd suspect some home crafter. However, the design seems pretty stylized for the average craft person, and the unusual distorted mark says "serious artist" to me. The mark seems to read E. Pollet to me, but I may be wrong. I'd suspect a European origin, but again, who knows? Brent IP: Logged |

I would say Potlet, comparing the twinned letters with the final. There was an Etienne Potlet, furniture maker, in France early 20C -- maybe he did other works as well? Or a relative? IP: Logged |

As long as we're guessing, I vote "E Porter" and the image is a carousel horse. [This message has been edited by salmoned (edited 04-27-2007).] IP: Logged |

Oh! I meant Porter. Just kidding, but I like the Porter suggestion. IP: Logged |

note that the fifth character has two slashes through it and it's hard for me to decipher whether they belong to the fourth or fifth or a combined both. IP: Logged |

I only see the slash which I interpret as the ascending angle of the first "r", which also may serve as a cross of the following "t". Any slash below that I see as scratches/false image. IP: Logged |
