Patrick Mavros made a miniature silver hippopotamus that I have acquired. In its original box was included a biography and description of the making of this animal. The name was unfamilar so a check on the Net brought up his web site that might be of interest as Zimbabwe is not a place I expected an active silversmith to be working. IP: Logged |

I believe he is from Zimbabwe and that the Patrick Mavros studio is now in London on Fulham Road. Thanks for the info. I have added him to the list of Living Silversmiths. I have sent him an e-mail inviting him to join the SSF. IP: Logged |

Patrick has cousins here in upstate NY and I first saw his terrific animals when a friend returned from her first trip to Zim. He started as an ivory carver and when the ban went into effect they became the masters for molds to cast them in sterling. He has done most african animals both as jewelery and larger table objet. How sad that Zimbabwe is going down the drain for all its peaple except a select few... IP: Logged |
