I just got this one. Has anyone seen this pattern before? The monogram appears to be chased and the shell is similar. Usually the shell is die struck, but I don't think so on this one. Any comments are welcome.

Great piece! I can't recall seeing this before, but Stone did a lot of custom work and I wouldn't be surprised if this were a custom pattern.

My first guess is that this might be a swaged pattern, utilizing a cut steel die. I don't know if Stone is known to have used swages, but that's what it looks like. The monogram appears to be integral to the pattern, and could have been cut into the swage. Other options would be chasing and/or acid etching.

Regrdless, an interesting and unusual piece of Stone flatware.

Can you tell us if the shell is raised on the surface of the spoon handle? If so it probably was swaged. Stone was a superb chaser and I do not doubt he could have chased each and every place setting.

Congratulations on your find.

Thanks everyone for the comments. The shell is raised, but under magnification it looks like it was done with hand tools. I don't know for certain, though.
