Hello middletom! After getting almost drowned today going to the Pier Show in NYC, I acquired my first piece of ONC today. It is a very sweet pair of spoon tongs 3" long. I just love it! Question however, it does not say handcrafted or anything like that, just ONC Sterling. You know I can't post pictures either but if you had any info on these it would be appreciated. Thank you for your time. Jersey IP: Logged |

Jersey, You have, I believe, sugar tongs, though as I guestimate three inches here on my desk, I think, rather, that it is a bon-bon tong. The lack of "handwrought" and a maker's mark indicates that it predates 1955. More than that I can't say, though I've seen very old ONC pieces stamped "sterling ONC".But, just when it switched to "ONC sterling", I have no idea. middletom IP: Logged |

Hello again Middletom! Thank you so very much for your reply. I could not be more pleased. I have yet learned something new again. I had never heard of Bon Bon tongs. They must be for expensive tiny treats. The fact that they are "older" really takes me aback too. I am so pleased. Thank you again so very much! Don't work too hard! Hackensack says Hello!

Jersey, We do, if fasct, still offer Bon Bon tongs though I've not made any in several years. The same is true for sugar tongs. I guess nobody uses sugar cubes or Bon Bons either. As to what pattern your tongs are in, most of the patterns made at ONC at the time yours were most likely made were simple colonial types and the tongs, because of their shape, lacked much of the pattern identification which was located at the tip of a handle. Your tongs could be either Old Newbury, Wilton or Windsor. If of the Moulton pattern, there would be shoulders flaring out into a panel about half way up the length of each side. I hope this is a help for you. middletom IP: Logged |
