[26-1881] Can someone tell me who is the maker of this tea service? I could not photograph the mark so I drew it. I have some silver items that have been passed down in my family and thought I might have some of them insured so I wanted some information before I get an appraisal. Thanks!

This is the mark of Anna (Asta) Eicher. We would love to see images of the teaset. That way we all get to learn and enjoy from this forum. A search for Eicher on the forum will yield further information. Fred [This message has been edited by FredZ (edited 07-11-2009).] IP: Logged |

What a great teaset! Thank you for posting it. Is there any family history to the set? Where did you acquire it? Fred IP: Logged |

This is a lovely set and I would recommend getting it appraised and insured. IP: Logged |

Fred, I am having trouble finding a qualified appraiser in my local (Portland, Or)or in the state of Oregon for that fact. I emailed Bonhams and Butterfields to seen if they could do an appraisal via email but haven't heard back yet. Any ideas? Thanks, IP: Logged |

Appraisals are a tricky area. You need someone specializing not just in silver, but in Arts and Crafts silver. The problem, from my experience, is that there is not a whole lot of A&C silver of this quality on the market. Appraisals work best with items that were produced in large quantity and are constantly being offered. Hand made, limited production items like this set are really one of a kind items and don't have a very firm market price. It is like valuing a painting. What other silver do you have? IP: Logged |

Scott, Thanks! I checked the databases of the ASA, AAA and ISA none of them had a accredited appraiser in my area. So I submitted the appraiser request form. IP: Logged |

quote: Hi Shirecliffe, Scott just emailed to tell me that you are looking for an appraiser in the Portland area. Coincidentally, I am an appraiser AND I am teaching an appraisal class in Portland in August! I can check to see who, locally, is registered for the course, or I could do the appraisal for you when I am there. We can discuss this outside of the forum should you wish to proceed. Scot will send you my email. Thanks, IP: Logged |
