We believe this to be an Old Newbury Crafter's tea strainer.

Scott, Yes, that indeed is an ONC tea strainer. From the stamping style I would say it is a very old piece, early twentieth century. Also the handle design is one we do not make now and I have never seen it before. Whether it was a custom piece or a design dropped from the line, I don't know. However, I've never seen any templates for that pattern nor have I heard of such a design being made. It is a great looking piece, though. Is it yours? Geoff Blake IP: Logged |

We were just in Miami for the Antique Shows. We were looking at a dealer's booth with a lot of European non-silver (paintings, furniture, sculpture, etc). He did have an interesting silver Portuguese vase we were seriously considering. He was a nice guy who we enjoyed talking to. We told him we had to think about the vase and left his booth. Later we returned to tell him we were going to pass on the vase. He was OK with that and it was then that he said he had a small group of flatware that was not out... would we like to see it? In this group of odd ball European flatware was the tea strainer. June and I didn't recall the last time we saw an ONC tea strainer. The seller and us agreed on a price. We were proud of the tea strainer and now upon, hearing your description, we are overjoyed that we saved this treasure from melt. IP: Logged |

Scott, Today I had a chance to search through our boxes of old flatware patterns and could not find one with that handle design. It must have been a custom piece. The extension opposite the handle is long and graceful and a match for the handle design, something we don't do with tea strainers now. Geoff IP: Logged |
