We have some great silver pieces and sets by William G. deMatteo (the father) and William L. "Bill" deMatteo (the son). William G. used two marks -- (1) DEMATTEO in all capital letters, and (2) what looks like a spoked wagon wheel with a D at the center. William L. used deM in a small box. It appears that both father and son made miniature silver items. A small, detailed, lifelike wheelbarrow by William G. is pictured on p. 13 of Schiffer/Drucker's "Jensen Silver" book. Here are two lifelike detailed miniatures by William L. They're nicely made, with moving parts, and are signed STERLING / [deM] in tiny letters near the triggers. The bigger one is 3-1/2" long, and the smaller one 3-1/8" long. They're heavy and solid, weighing just over 2-1/2 troy ounces together. An interesting pair from an under-appreciated silversmith. Adorable! I love the wood-graining on the lower pistol. IP: Logged |
