Did anyone ever find out anything about this metalsmith/artist? I have a small, but lovely copper dish with an impressed mark of J Braun, with hammer and awl. It is of good quality and may be from the arts and crafts time period. Would like info! Thanks. IP: Logged |

Hi Missy. Welcome to the forum. Could you please take a moment and introduce yourself to the forum by responding to the questions in the yellow box above for new posters? We are just a small group of silver enthusiasts who enjoy talking about our hobby and we ask new people to please give a brief introduction of themselves along these lines. Here they are again: Tell us the Why of your question - We're not being snoopy; knowing will help us help you. What is your interest in silver? What is it that you hope to learn from this question? What is your purpose in asking? Thanks and we look forward to your participating in the forum. Kimo IP: Logged |

In your notice of "welcome to new members", I would be in the category of those who know "little or nothing" about silver. However, I have been a long time collector of vintage jewelry (mostly silver), and antiques, and I will be taking a metalsmithing class at a local college this fall. I have come across some pieces, such as the J Braun copper dish that I would like to get more info on, just to expand my personal infomation base. I'm certain that as I get more invovled in the metalsmithing class, I'll become more knowledgible, but this seemed like a good place to start. Just stumbled across your website. IP: Logged |

Hi Missy, I have a great interest in the work of J.Braun and have collected a few pieces. Could you possibly post an image of your copper dish? If you follow the link that Scott has posted you will learn all that I have been able to discover about the craftsman. Best, IP: Logged |

Thanks so much Scott and Fred! Yes, that is the mark on my copper piece. I will try to get a pic put up by the weekend - will need my son's help to post it - I'm not very good with computer stuff. Again, my copper dish has a definite early 1900's feel to it - maybe Arts and Crafts period. I purchased it in NY, so maybe the New Jersey Braun is a good lead. IP: Logged |
