I bought a serving or large table spoon today marked "A. Skinner" & "Pure Coin", the spoon has a Medallion of a STRAWBERRY LEAF and also a strawberry fruit on the spoon stem, I know nothing about the maker, pattern??? Can anyone help ??? Spoon measures 8 inches long and probably weights 2 ounces, looks to be about 100 years old but only a guess? IP: Logged |

Without a picture it's hard to be sure what you have, but it sounds like a pattern some refer to as the "strawberry" pattern. I don't know the actual name. It is not considered a true "Medallion" pattern but is very desirable. I don't know who made this pattern, but, if memory serves, (my books are packed, between shows) A. Skinner was a Boston or New England retailer. "Pure coin" was a mark used mostly in that area. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of this pattern can shed more light. It's one my favorites and hard to find. I would very much like to know more. Ted Stickney IP: Logged |

Hagan's book lists this as a William B. Durgin pattern, 1874, but I agree w/ Ted that it may be from the Boston area. The retailer on my teaspoon is from Boston--Palmer Batchelders--and the spoon is also marked "pure coin." IP: Logged |
