Here is a an interesting Gale & Willis cream pitcher that June and I picked up this weekend. The Gale & Willis pseudohallmark dates it to 1859.

A very handsome peice - I had not seen that exagerated basket-weave pattern used on a pitcher before. Belden gives the working dates for the Gale/Willis partnership as 1860-1862 and refers to the psuedohallmark as a patent mark, with an indication that they were was used across several partnerships and may show an earlier design date, but later making. William Gale Sr was born in New York State on 5 April 1798. The partner was John R Willis who married Wm Gale Sr's daughter on 18 Oct 1855 . [This message has been edited by bascall (edited 11-19-2013).] IP: Logged |
