The first mark is for the partners Tobias Lander and Bela Squire working in New York as watchmakers, jewelers, and silversmiths c 1853-1870. The second is for Jehu and William L. Ward, jewelers and silversmiths working in Philadelphia c 1837-1852. I can only guess at the under mark; there was an Abijah Warden working in Philly in the early 1840s that is a possibility, but the 'Norm' is a puzzle. IP: Logged |

many thanks for the prompt answer and the information - it is the dates i am especially interested in - I am trying to establish original ownership and the dates eliminate certain possibilities - the NORM is not part of the makers name - it was supposed to be my signature.I have since acquired still another spoon - a fiddleback serving spoon incused FENNO&HALE and in another place BANGOR. CCan you date this for me too? again may thanks for your help!! NORM IP: Logged |

My pleasure. It did occur to me that you might be Norm, but only after I had posted. Fenno (Jeremiah) and Hale (Charles) are listed in directories as working in Bangor, Maine c 1848-1859. They were listed in the Maine Register for 1856 as watchmakers, jewelers, spoon, and spectacle manufacturers. IP: Logged |

Treedtoo mentioned a 3-mark trademark in the first post. This sounds like the mark of John L. Westervelt of Newburgh, NY. I imagine that Westervelt made the spoon and Squire and Lander retailed it. IP: Logged |
