I have at last managed to get my American Silversmith Genealogy up on the web. The tree now links together 665 makers and includes their mark and career information as available. I invite those with an interest in early American makers to stop by and take a look: SILVERSMITHS & RELATED CRAFTSMEN I would appreciate hearing of any additions, corrections or general comments from our knowledgeable readers. Thank you from an amatuer collector. I noticed you were in need of a maker's mark for Savage I have two pieces with the Savage mark on them that I can try to scan for you, I'm not sure what Savage they would be attributed to but maybe you can tell from the shape of the pieces. Phil IP: Logged |

Thank you all for your kind words. For those who wish to make greater use of the information, I have added a link on the index page to a downloadable .exe file of the entire database. This self-contained viewer will allow very sophisticated searching and configuration of the data. Unfortunately, this will not work on Mac based systems. Please let me know if you find this useful or if any problems arise. [This message has been edited by wev (edited 09-11-2001).] IP: Logged |

I just came across this post while searching for something else entirely (as is usual). It's been more than a decade since I posted it, which is, in itself, staggering. My little project now stands at 7,500 smiths and their related craftsmen and women. After the last rebuild, I thought this might be a propitious place to end things -- and then I found 7 more people to add. Oh well, we bear what we must, I suppose. IP: Logged |

I'd like to say that I enjoy this site very much! It has been very helpful to me when I have found earlier American pieces. Thank you for your hard work on this! IP: Logged |
