There has been a lot of speculation about the marks of James Watts and/or James Watts' relationship to/with other silversmiths. (See prior posts: maker query - horsehead & Another unknown manufacturer. June and I have never really been certain about the horsehead/chevron (and variations). We haven't seen any solid documentation to support or contradict the horsehead/chevron (and variations) attribution but we do understand the supposition. Here is a mark combination we hadn't seen before. What do you think?

McGrew suspects the Arrow W Chevron is the second mark of James Watts. See page 62 in McGrew. IP: Logged |

Here are two Watts related pieces. The first has the James Watts as well as the horse head, chervon mark and the George Sharp mark lion S lion.
