I also inherited a punch ladle with Zeba Ferris and "coin" on the back. I believe Zeba Ferris was one of the DuPont's she did private duty nursing for. They were very generous as she worked for them for over 50 years! Is there a silversmith wth the same name???? IP: Logged |

Not just one, but two, father and son. Ziba Senior (1786-1875) worked alone as a silversmith in Wilmington DE c 1808-1848 and as partner with his son, Ziba (1828-?) as Z. FERRIS & SON from 1851-1870. Another son, Thomas Meager, was also a silversmith. Why do I inherit nothing but bad debt and rumour? IP: Logged |

Thanks so much for your help. I was very lucky to have someone who collected silver in my family with no children. As for the remaining family members, alas, there will be nothing but debt and pink flamingos! IP: Logged |

This is an old post. Family members record Ziba Ferris jr's death date as 15 February 1888. Ziba Ferris jr's mother was a Megear. In 1850 Alter Megear is residing with the Ferris's who are likely his aunt, uncle and cousins. And Thomas Jefferson Megear is working as a watchmaker in Philadelphia without his wife who may have passed away at the time of Alter's birth. A Thomas Jefferson Megear who was born in 1809 in Delaware applied for a passport in Philadelphia in 1859 and possibly renewed it two or more times. The last time in 1875.
