Does anyone have any information on this maker? The mark is from a double-swell fiddleback serving spoon of ordinary form. IP: Logged |

Thomas Knox Emery died in 1813, much to early for this spoon, but I am sure this Charles T. is somehow connected to the same family tree which had branches in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont. IP: Logged |

There is a Charles T Emery that was born in New Hampshire in 1830. In 1850 his occupation is given as a silversmith, and in 1860 he calls himself a jeweler. His residence was in Portsmth, Rockingham County. His father's name is Thatcher Emery. Thatcher was born in Maine and was a Miller. There appears to be other Emery's living in close proximity in Portsmouth City that are millers and ship masters. The other Emerys were also born in Maine. Therefore, Charles T.'s silversmith occupation does suggest the family connection you mention. [This message has been edited by bascall (edited 07-20-2007).] IP: Logged |

Double-swell fiddles were made from Mass. all the way up to the Canadian Maritimes, so that fits with the style, too. IP: Logged |

I believe you can add Rhode Island to that range of distribution, too. I didn't know they went into Canada; I've never seen any of those! IP: Logged |
