Hi labarbedor!

Did you ever find out about your ladle? There was a London smith James Young mid 1700's who had a mark very similar to yours.

I too can use help with a maker & also is there a name for the type of attachment to the bowl.
I have a similar ladle, plain with the tip of the handle being pointed. The mark looks like an I or L with a flame over it. The back handle is of the same construction, i.e., looks like a baseball where the handle attaches to the bowl.

Anyone out there have a reference that shows the different types of backs, what they are called, & would identify the year(s) made?

Thanks in advance as always for your help.

I can't help with any of the makers, but that "baseball" area is known as a drop.

HI Paul!

Thanks so much for that info about the drop, does that date it to any particular period?

I defer to the more knowledgeable coin silver collectors here about dating a piece based on its drop. I am terrible with coin silver.
