One of the things I like best about the silversmith tree project is the web-like connections it has exposed among seemingly unrelated people. In this vein, one of the games I enjoy playing is What if?. To take a typical example, what if John Howland, fresh off the boat, the first of his line to journey to the Americas, had not met, wooed, and wed Elizabeth Tilley, herself a first-to-these-shores immigrant? Aside from the smaller consideration of losing Franklin Delano Roosevelt, we would not enjoy the fruits of: Zalmon Aspinwall -- 3rd Great Grand Son And this always brings to mind the question of what these fellows knew of their own pasts.. Did John Gorham recognize the commonality he shared with Gorham Thurber when they formed GORHAM & THURBER in 1850, or did they just see it as a happy coincidence of first and last name? IP: Logged |
