Folks, would anyone have any suggestions? I have a great little 18th cen. ladle, fresh out of middle Virginia, with a "WW" mark. My first thought was Waddill, but apparently MESDA has an example with a comparable mark with a Charleston SC provenance. There was a Wm. Wright who worked both in Va. & in Sc. Any thoughts? Quite a number of WW marks, both Southern and Northern. Can we see a picture? IP: Logged |

Here is the mark
and the ladle
---- A handsome piece with interesting form. The mark looks very much like that shown for William Whetcroft (1735-1799) in Baltimore Museum's Maryland Silver. He worked in Annapolis, 1765-1767; Baltimore, 1767-1769; and Annapolis again, 1769-1790. IP: Logged |
