I recently purchased a 14" ladle,in the "Thread" pattern. The ladle is very heavy, so I tested it to be sure it wasn't plated. The marks are a profile, JB in clover leaf, and bird. I would greatly appreciate any help in identifying the marks, perhaps Phila or Baltimore? The figure engraved on the front of the handle looks like a steer or horned ox. Somebody's prize bull? No other engraving. Thank you.

I do not have an attribution for the mark, but I would say, based on the striated background of the cartouche, that the origin is Philadelphia. The shape of the cartouche is also suggestive; see my post at A city identifier? Great crest. IP: Logged |
