We have a coin silver Christening cup with a hallmark that we can not attribute. Can anyone shed light on this subject? Thank you! Valerie IP: Logged |

A nice cup indeed. The inscription intrigues me. Fahys is a fairly uncommon name; the first person to come to mind is Joseph Fahys, founder of the Fahys Watch-Case Company. I have found nothing of his early life, but he did marry a woman named Marie L'Hommedieu Payne in New York City, c 1865. Was wee Marie a daughter? Was mother from the L'Hommedieu line that later went south to Mobile AL, giving us a pair of fine smiths, John and William? And what of the Dupuy middle name? A family attachment to the famous Dupuy's of Philadelphia? A tasty little mystery. IP: Logged |

Joseph had a daughter name Marie Louise who was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on 20 December 1856.
