Here is the mark of one of the multiple Moultons, but which one?
The right-hand group is assigned, in Simple Elegance to the partnership c 1796 of Ebenezer Moulton and Theophilus Bradbury, but this spoon is definately of the 1830s. It would seem more reasonable as a 'company' mark for Joseph Moulton IV, the last of the line to work as a maker, but who is the M. Moulton on the left? Joseph's son Edward continued in the business, but only as a manager until it was sold to Towle & Jones. Any ideas? IP: Logged |

There's a Marcus S Moulton in the 1860 U S Federal Census for Stafford, Toland County, Connecticut who was born in about 1832 in Massachusetts and whose occupation was jewelery. It's really difficult to make the initial "M" in the image though. IP: Logged |

I do not find an M Mouton however from geneology records the Moulton family certainly took the phrase 'go forth and multiply' with ernest. I find the Moulton name from the late 16th century well into today. Good luck with the search and please let us know if you find M Moulton. Could we see the spoon in its entirety? IP: Logged |
