I thought since Fred hadn't seen a coin comb, this ought to blow his mind as it did mine. I don't know much about this form, except they are usually found in whale bone or brass. The outriding marks were probably turned to fit the space, my guess that on a spoon they would be horizontal. To my mind the outriding marks are more often found in Phila. and of course New Orleans. The maker's mark looks similar to Samuel Avery, but certainly seems different. Has anyone seen this mark? Maurice IP: Logged |

Here is one of the numerous marks used by Samuel Avery and the one that looks most like those you show

I am thrilled!!! What a treat to see such a wonderful and rare item. What a baker's delight to be able to use this pastry decorator. Now you will need to treat us to baked goods made with this tool. Does the handle look lathed or is it filed? What an inspiration to make one like this for my wife and baking friends! Thank you ever so much for sharing this with us.... I presume it was filed, but that is a good question, I will check Mon. I have never seen another with a heart even in brass. Maurice IP: Logged |
