Any opinions on the ID of these HMs?
GE or GF plus Griffon? Looks American, but I don't find anything in Ensko or Wyler. BTW, is Kovel's American marks book a worthwhile addition beyond the mentioned two texts? Thanks! Rick IP: Logged |

I believe it is the griffen mark used in Orebro Sweden in the 19th century. Kovel is good for the bibliography (though it is dated and has its own errors); the listings should be taken only with a stiff dose of salt IP: Logged |

Thanks, William. That's twice now that the mystery spoon has turned out to be Northern European. I'm not interested in that origin silver as such, but maybe I'll have to get a book just to distinguish it from the American stuff in which I am interested. Oh, well, it's said that in any field of collecting, your first $500 investment should be in books. I'm getting there! Rick IP: Logged |
