One of the reasons I thought this was ca. 1800 was the script style of the mono. The spoon also has no drop.

"Feathered" script, such as this, came into use gradually after the Revolution, replacing the dominant block lettering early in the next Century. Feathered script was used almost exclusively throughout the first half of the Century (except for some block lettering in the first decade or so). Other styles appeared about mid-century and completely replaced the feathered script by the late '70's or early '80's.

Your spoon is proportionally correct for an early fiddle of the coffin type, and looks well made. Without the clipped corners, the style would be an imitation of the English fiddle pattern. It would have been an early product of the partnership. The monogram, which reads "LP," is not particularly well executed, and shows inexperience or carelessness on the part of the engraver.

It would have been better to have added to the existing thread davis & moron?, rather than creating a new one.
