I've had a question from a volunteer at The Newark Museum, who has a set of four coin silver table spoons, probably of the 1840-50 period. The INCUSE marks on the backs of the spoons are "J.G. 70" Does anyone know about this odd numerical mark? It has defied research in the standard American texts. I thought they might be continental, but I don't know enough. IP: Logged |

Without seeing the mark, I can't say for sure, but it is probably made in Germany and is plated silver. IP: Logged |

Might you be thinking of the common '90' mark on German plated flatware? Others that turn up are '100' for extra quality and '60' which appears to be used on "gastronomy" ware. I don't remember coming accross '70'. Not trusting my memory very much, I googled for it but turned up nothing. IP: Logged |
