Just a spoon, but a curious name "McCarty & Hurlbert", I can find not reference. Mark is incised on a simple Tipped / Fiddle and Fin Teaspoon. Also catrries the "coin" near the bowl.... Any idea... I am thinking Phila. Pa...

I suspect he was the retailer rather than the maker, what do you think? "Smaug" IP: Logged |

McCarty & (Henry O) Hurlburt advertised in Hammonton, New Jersey in the The Hammonton Item Saturday, November 25, 1876 that they were the successors to Butler, McCarty & Co and manufacturers of gold and silver watch cases, jewelry, silverware & c. The last directory listing for McCarty & Hurlburt that I have access to was in 1887. Henry O Hurlburt and sons began advertising as H O Hurlburt & Sons jewelers in the 1889 Philadelphia Directory. It should be safe to say that McCarty & Hurlburt were in business together from the mid 1870's to the late 1880's. IP: Logged |
