Nelson Roth advertised in Utica as a silversmith, watchmaker and jeweler between 1837 and 1857. IP: Logged |

Thanks swarter ! There must be better books than I can find at the library or my collection? I have quite a few american and some continental (which I find daunting trying to figure out) pieces that I can find no clues to. Any advice? IP: Logged |

His brother Volkert (what a name!) was also a jeweler and watchmaker in Utica at the same time. IP: Logged |

In passing, I note from the ROMAN CITIZEN newspaper, Rome, Oneida County, New York, Wednesday, November 6, 1850, a marriage between ROTH - BARTON: In Brooklyn, New York, October 29, 1850, by the Rev. John Stearns, Mr. NELSON ROTH of Utica, New York, to Miss ELIZA BARTON of the former place. Source: Oneida County N.Y. GenWeb IP: Logged |

A Nelson Roth who was born in New York in about 1817 died in the St Louis Hospital on January 29, 1866 and is buried in the Bellafontaine Cemetery. The Utica, New York jeweler Nelson Roth was born in about 1817. And there is an N Roth who is listed in the 1860 U S Federal Census in St Louis, Missouri as a jeweler. His place of birth is given as England. His wife's name in the 1860 Census was Eliza. There is also a John Roth in the same census who is a 24 years old jeweler that was born in New York. He is near the age of a son of Nelson's by that name. IP: Logged |

Jorgy Ask your local library about Interlibrary book loan. In addition go online to do a search for books, this usually turns up a number of titles. A few Online book sellers Have lists of titles and SMP has a ist of good silver references that are very helpful just use the search function. IP: Logged |
