Hello all and what a great site! I am no silver buff...but when I see the lustre...love it. Picked up 5 beautiful old old spoons at a recent North Carolina estate sale. They have 4 initials! Never saw this before...Polished to a beautiful sheen...back has T. Steele, an eagle and a P..tried to find out age w/Google, but to no avail and found y'all. One of these spoons has been repaired...to me a sign they were cherished and they are used...teeth marks in the bowls..I have a sugar shell that my mom's teeth marks are in...so these were well used family silver...but so beautiful...the initials are MBJA, in a lovely old script. Any info? I would love to somehow date these. Have a great day all. Mflower

Thomas Steele was born 18 Sep 1812 in Plainfield CT. He worked 1837-1840 as a silversmith in Boston MA, where he presumably trained. He worked from 1841 to 1844 with Horace B. Crocker in Hartford CT as STEELE & CROCKER. When the partnership ended, he worked alone from 1844 to 1866 as a silversmith, watchmaker, and jeweler in Hartford CT as THOMAS STEELE & Co. From 1866 to 1875, he was joined by his son, Thomas Sedgwick Steele, and worked as THOMAS STEELE & SON. He died in Hartford in 1875.

Oh...forgot to ask...these are very light and on my postal scale...around 1/2 ounce..do you think they're sterling or coin silver? My Mom used to show me things that were trimmed as she said..in coin gold. My Mom knew a lot...Thanks again WEV!

You're welcome. They would be coin silver. No ideas on the monogram; without some family history or provenance, it is nearly impossible to put a name to them.
