I have a scalloped spoon that is marked Palmers & Bachelders. I have found info on Palmer and Bachelders - Boston but nothing with Palmer with an S on the end. Is this the same maker and if so would this be coins silver or sterling silver? Thank you!!! IP: Logged |

It was Palmers & Bachelders, made up of Jacob and Julius Palmer & Augustus and Josiah Bachelder, hence the plurals. The name was changed after 1865 to Palmer, Bachelder, & Company, though the partners remained the same. IP: Logged |

I've seen images of the mark Palmer (singular) & Bachelders. Is that an earlier version? IP: Logged |

Should have visited wev's site before commenting; the 'Palmer & Bachelders' mark is there (for the 1846-64 company). It would be nice to see an image of the plural version of the mark. If the original poster is still around... ? IP: Logged |

Thanks, wev! Hoping soon to have in my hands an example of the single-Palmer mark in the same style as that image -- cut straight into the silver, not part of a rectangle (is that 'incuse'?). If it should come to fruition, I'll post an image. IP: Logged |
