This beautiful server belongs to a friend and I wonder if anyone knows the pattern name. This server was retailed in the South, but I believe it was made somewhere in the north. Thanks.

There are no marks? And please reduce your second image to an acceptable size or it will be snipped. IP: Logged |

This is the RIBBON pattern by Theodore Evans & Co. of New York City. The firm started busines in 1855, and according to Rainwater they did a lot of business in the South. So, it all fits perfectly. Brent IP: Logged |

The mark was by Gustave Braune of Eutaw, Alabama, but I did not take a photo of his mark. Robert Green, in his article for the May-June 1978 Silver Magazine, lists Braune working in Eutaw from 1855 to 1873. James Cormany in his book on Alabama Silversmiths puts him in Eutaw in 1856 so both dates make the Evans source logical. Thanks Brent for the source and I will pass it on to my friend. Sorry about the size, I tried to change it quickly, but must not have done it fast enough. IP: Logged |

Above is the mark of Gustave Braune that is on the back of the server. I neglected to take a photo of this mark on my last visit. I also included a picture of his home in Eutaw, Alabama and of the place marker in front of his home. IP: Logged |
