Hello, generous experts. Here I go possibly embarrassing myself again with newbie questions: I found the following spoon at a flea market and bought it for a few dollars because I thought it was sweet. Any idea of its age & origin? Is it even coin silver? I didn't recognize the mark or find it in any of the places I looked, but I'm such an ignoramus that that doesn't mean a whole lot. As for why I'm interested: Just curiosity and the romance of a pretty object that seems to have survived a good many years longer than I have. It's about 5 1/4 inches long, with a pointed handle, bright-cut decoration (what's that wonderful term? Wiggle work? Wriggle work? Is this an example of that?), a slightly pointed bowl, no drop, and a short ridge starting at the tip of the handle. It's stamped "N.S.1." and also with a picture of a castle, or maybe two towers, on the back of the handle. No monogram. I took some pictures; let's see if I sized them right & can figure out how to post them. Thanks in advance for your time and thoughts! Polly IP: Logged |

Hi Polly, Your pictures look great! The spoon is very sweet and nicely engraved. The two-tower mark (in use since the late 1800s) indicates that it's Danish silverplate, haven't seen the "N.S.1." mark before. Cheryl IP: Logged |

Ah, thanks, Cheryl! Oops, wrong forum, then. I'll have to use it to eat Danishes. IP: Logged |
