In the same set of spoons that are mentioned in my prior posting, there was a serving spoon with the mark JE, as shown in the photo below. The J has a triangular "tail" in the right corner. Since several of the spoons came from Philadelphia, I was wondering if this is the mark of Jeremiah Elfreth. Any help would be appreciated.

Doc, can you post a picture of the spoons please, as this may help.

This looks like a fiddle-handled spoon. If so, it is too late for Elfreth, who died in 1765. Ir is also too late for Joseph Edwards, Jr., who died in 1783. Please post a picture of the spoon to confirm this.

Here's a photo of the spoon in its entirety-sorry it's a bit fuzzy. It's approximately 9 1/2 inches in length.

I thought it might be too late for Edwards or Elfreth, although I have a William Coffin Little spoon of similar design, and he is a contemporary.

Re my prior Little reference, I note from the death dates that they are not really contemporaries-I apologize. If it helps at all, the lot of spoons I purchased also had a few Boston area makers mixed in, including the aforementioned William Coffin Little spoon of similar size, design and heft.

William Coffin Little died in 1816, when fiddle-handles were becoming popular; this particular spoon could be even later.
