Hello, I have searched through forums here and on internet trying to find out more information about coin silver tablespoons that I have. These are monogramed on front with my family name and left to me by Great Aunt. The only mark on back of spoons is L. KENT in block style letters. Does anyone know where these were made or anything about the maker? Thank You IP: Logged |

Wev, Thank you so much for the information. I will take picture and post photo tomorrow. This makes sense, because much of my early family records show residence in both Ohio and Kentucky areas. I will ask my family members also, if they know anything about origin of spoons. Your information is a good start. IP: Logged |

Information on Luke Kent can be found in Elizabeth Beckman's book published in 1975. I am currently in the process of researching Cincinnati smiths for an upcoming publication on Cincinnati silver that will provide an evaluation of the local trade and its place in the American silver industry. So far, I've conducted city directory searches, as I've found error in some of Mrs. Beckman's research. In my directory search that spanned existing directories between 1819 and 1910, I found the following relative to Luke Kent. I've not yet had a chance to do more extensive research on him. According to Rev Charlse Frederic Goss's book "Cincinnati The Queen City 1788=1912," S J Clarke Publishing Co, Luke Sr opened his shop in Cincinnati in 1814. The Kents were from Virginia. IP: Logged |
