In Louise Belden's "Marks of American Silversmiths," the mark is listed as Samuel M. Hopper, a Philadelphia silversmith who works from 1835 until 1859. In this book it appears in what we call a serrated rectangle. Is that what your mark is? IP: Logged |

Maker's marks are not hallmarks, which are offical marks denoting quality, origin. See this FAQ for an explanation. IP: Logged |
