Can anyone tell me anything about these spoons ( the maker, where he was from, years active)? They are stamped "PURE COIN" and "E. NEWBURY". Thanks for your help !!! IP: Logged |

Listed in the 1850 U S Federal Census for Brooklyn, Connecticut with the occupation spectacle manufacturer and the birthplace Mansfield. His wife's name was Lucy M. Marriage to Brooklyn, Connecticut born Lucy Marie James on 25 April 1824 in Brooklyn, Connecticut recorded in the Barbour Collection . From the History of Windham County, Connecticut, Volume I, 1600-1760, and Volume II, 1760-1880, Brooklyn Enterprise: Edwin C. Newbury of Mansfield, having served apprenticeship in Hartford, opened shop as a silversmith, finding a ready market for serviceable spoons and spectacles ( no date given but this was after the Windham County Bank incorporated in 1822). Listed in the 1860 U S Federal Census for Brooklyn, Connecticut as a spectacle maker; wife's name at this time is Althea H; twenty-three year old son Henry D, a twenty-two year old Rhode Island born Henry Dana and a twenty year old Connecticut born Roland Nettleton are also listed with Edwin as spectacle makers.
