Sorry I cant send you all pics of hallmarks. My vision is very poor and old digital camera is worse. I have a butter pick . On the back it says "pat 55 coin". I assume that means it was pattened in 1955. The "coin" is new to me. Does that mean coin silver? Is that as good as or better than sterling silver ? Thanks Ever So Much Caro;ann IP: Logged |

I´m afraid some sort of image really is essential. Coin silver, originally derived from melted down coins, was the norm in the United States until the second half of the 19th century. It is spproximately 90 percent pure silver, as oposed to sterling which is 92.5%, however this difference does not affect the "collectable" nature of your piece. So Pat 55 may well be 1855.
