I own a few coin silver spoons with the following hallmark (name) in a rectangle : J.& S. FRANK Does anyone know where the silversmith worked and during what time period. Most appreciative of your help. IP: Logged |

Sounds like this firm was a retailer and not an actual silversmithing concern. There were a lot of small smiths whose names haven't surfaced in any documents, but there are even more retailers, and they are nearly impossible to trace in many cases. IP: Logged |

Ulysses, Thanks for your help. Do you believe this because of the "J & S" ? IP: Logged |

Jacob and Samuel Frank, watchmakers and jewelers in Philadelphia. Both were born in Pennsylvania in the 1820's. IP: Logged |
