Can't really give much of an opinion without photos, however, 'S&W' [if in a recessed, rectangular background] may be Simmons & Williamson, Philadelphia 1797 [from "American Silversmiths and Their Marks", Ensko (1989)]. [This message has been edited by salmoned (edited 10-21-2005).] IP: Logged |

Salmoned, Yes, S & W is in a recessed, rectangular box as is "STANDARD". Do you believe they are coin silver and any idea what standard means ? Thanks SO much for your help. IP: Logged |

Okay, I'll bite one more time [even though I am not very knowledgeable on this subject]. 'Standard' is generally believed to refer to the fineness of the standard silver coin in the Americas (Spanish dollar) at the time, i.e., 900/1000.
