I have a teaspoon marked with: lion facing right, "S", lion facing left. Any ideas about the manufacturer? IP: Logged |

Those particular marks have been conclusively linked to George Sharp of Philadelphia. He worked roughly 1850-1874, and had a fairly considerable manufacturing operation. Sharp developed a number of interesting flatware patterns, including some that rivalled the output of larger concerns like John R. Wendt and Gorham. Quite a bit has been published about Sharp's marks in Silver magazine over the years; check out the index of articles on their web site at www.silvermag.com. There are others who specialize in Victorian flatware who could tell you much more than I know about Sharp, so I will step aside here. IP: Logged |

Thanks. That fits nicely. I'm from Delaware and right next door to Philadelphia. IP: Logged |
