Hello all, Here is an interesting set of late 18th C silver sugar tongs. The bend is decorated with bright cutting. The arms are compressed laterally, and engraved on the sides. The grips are a rather simple shell form. The tongs are marked HP, as shown, inside the bend. Any ideas as to the maker? I'd like it to be American coin, but it could as well be Scottish, Irish or even colonial. Personally, I can't recall handling a set of identified American tongs with "sideways" handles like this, but that means little. Does anyone have any examples of tongs of a similar form, regardless of origin? Brent IP: Logged |

Can't speak for American ones, but I recently saw a similar bright cut pair with that handle profile, and partial English hallmarks for c1790. IP: Logged |
