I am sort of comfortable with this being one of the Stephen Emory marks. The thing that gives me cause for concern is the unusual decoration. The pineapple yells at me as 'maybe Bermuda'. They are probably around 1785 but are they Emory?

HELP!

Your mark looks identical to me to mark b for Stephen Emery in Belden.
The pineapple was the symbol for hospitality in Colonial America. Early Willamsburg used it extensively at Christmas time. They also state that Christopher Wren began using pineapple finials on churches around 1681.

Beautiful tongs even without the engaging engraving.

While the pineapple is of course the symbol of hospitality and as such often used as finial (teapots, etc.) the pineapple on your sugar tongs is a crest. Looking in Fairbairn's Book of Crest, we find the pineapple on Plate 152, fig. 8 - a crest used by the following families: Apperley, *Burfoot,*Kidd, Parkins, *Parkyns, Perryn and Willaume. (The asterix is added, if a crest is not exactly engraved as on Fairbairn's plates).
