Does anyone have any or know of any silver by William or John Athan Waite (besides the nice tongs on wev's site)? I have a family connection and would love to be able to see some of their work. ~Cheryl [This message has been edited by dragonflywink (edited 04-29-2007).] IP: Logged |

Buhler's catalog of the MFA collection illustrates a cann by John Waite, and Sotheby's catalog of the Moore collection illustrates two tablespoons. Nothing by William in those collections. IP: Logged |

John Waite is discussed in the book "The Silversmiths of Little Rest" by William Davis Miller. I do not have this book and do not know if photos are included of his work in this book. Maybe someone else has this book and can tell you if it is something you may want to purchase. William Waite is also discussed in this book, but from the summary I saw was only referred to as a minister. A reprint of this book is available. IP: Logged |

There are illustrations of a creamer, porringer, tongs, and a cann by John Waite, in a 6 page treatment in "Silversmmioths of Litle Rest.". There is a short treatment of William, but no illustrations as no works by him were located. IP: Logged |

The Rhode Island Historical Society in Providence has three John Waite spoons. Two are marked J W, and the third one is marked Waite. IP: Logged |
