I bought this as I have never seen this form before. Use of a micrometer indicates the pouring lip is just under 1/1000 inch more thin than the opposing side. Joseph Lownes is the silversmith with an estimated date of around 1790 to 1800. The sauce ladle is 6 3/16 inches long with a weight of 0.7 ounces or 22 grams. Now for the obvious question. Was this made with a puring lip or is it an alteration? IP: Logged |

TO my eye, the entire bowl is asymmetrical, and thus it looks intentional and original, rather than altered. Can't say I've ever seen this form before--but then that means nothing. IP: Logged |
