I am not certain how to decipher this monogram. I am used to seeing the family name first letter on top then below seeing the first letter of husband then next the first letter of the wife. Bust as can be seen in the photo there are four letters below. Any suggestions? IP: Logged |

On American silver, this practice is common with families of Dutch descent - something like Henry (Hendrik) van Dyke. One posibility is that HVD would be one person, and "count" as one initial, so with the W and M there would still only be three. Colin van Gelder Forbes used CVGF in his mark, so four is possible, but the placement of the letters indicates three people, with the VD being a "middle (family) name" of the first individual, whose full name initials would be H VD M, and his wife W M.
